Rodney Smith with 13 lb 8 oz bass, 2004
Rodney and Kathey Smith, Tuscaloosa, have been fishing Bar-D lakes for three years. They are among the best at catching big bass from these lakes. Rodney gave me permission to tell part of his and Kathey's secrets of "Big Bass Fishing."

"Big bass hit big lures. I use 10 inch worms, a no. 5 hook, and 12 lb test line. I fish at daylight, dusk, and at night during the summer. I catch them in the middle of the day in the winter," reported Rodney (July, 2004).

"I have had bass over 14 lbs up to the boat on several occasions. I know there is a State record in one of the Bar-D lakes...and I plan on catching her this winter," remarked Rodney Smith to me, July of 04.

Big bass are caught in every month of the year at the Bar-D lakes. David Carlisle from Bay Minnette usually hooks into at least one big bass per trip. "I hung one bass with eyeballs as big as quaters...could have been 15 pounds. It pulled loose at the boat," reported Dave (Aug. 2003).

Russel Lawrence from Tuscaloosa and his sons catch a lot of big bass from Club lakes (below left). Steve Drexler's wife and friend, Eddie, both caught big bass from Bar-D (summer 06).

Randal Cowart, Bessemer, AL, caught this 14 lb 1 oz. bass from the pier on Lake Eli in the summer of 2000. This is the largest bass caught from the Club (that I know about). Randall caught this monster on 4 lb test line.
